Taxila to Haripur Highway to boost trade, tourism, industry’


ISLAMABAD: Taxila-Khanpur-Haripur Highway will boost trade, tourism and industry in the area and will also facilitate the people in their travel.

Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil expressed these views after groundbreaking ceremony of the rehabilitation and upgradation of Taxila-Khanpur-Haripur Highway.

The main feature of this highway is its 7-kilometer part is in Punjab while 36 kilometers is in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and this project has cost Rs 2,854 million. This 43-kilometer highway starts at Taxila on Peshawar Rawalpindi National Highway and reaches Khanpur and Haripur and this is an important link between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This road was federalized in 2010 and declared a national highway and with the completion of this highway, links between Punjuab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be strengthened that would improve trade and business activities in both the provinces.

He said the road network of a country determined its overall progress and the Ministry of Communications was working under the National Trade Corridor Programme that would boost economic development of the whole region.

In this connection work is in progress on projects such as North-South Expressway, Motorway System, Gwadar Port and upgradation of Karakoram Highway, he said.

We want to provide relief to the people in every sector but there is no doubt that we are confronted with numerous problems including terrorism and our resources are also limited but despite all this our determination is strong and we will change the destiny of our nation.
